Hi all,

We have a SCO 6.0 server running on HW with a Prescott platform, and we never had any problems with it so far. Now, we needed to change the HBA controller to a SandyBridge platform, but the system crashes on boot.
We tried several diferent MB, from different manufacturers, and in all the result is the same. Is there any incompatibility between SCO and SandyBridge based hardware?

We also tried installing the SCO from ground zero on the SandyBridge, using the old controller, SCO certified (LSI SAS8880EL, based on LSI 1078 chip) but we could not install correctly also. If we do the same on an older platform, with Prescott HW, using the same controller, we can install it perfectly.

Can you please share some insights about this?

Thanks in advance,

Hugo

To avoid such problem we now install SCO 6.0 inside VMWare.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Nowadays with SCO Vmware is the way to go - SCO won't add any support for new hardware while VM will.

And although even VMware may have issues with new hardware those will be fixed in a "short" time.

and for those that do not wish to pay for VMware the free version (up to 6 cores) will work as well

I was thinking, if it is a wise idea to put in the hands of two software systems for a small business, the only server virtualizing existing SCO.
Trying to keep alive the possibility of SCO will not be entering a downward spiral free pending ...... SCO work or research in new technology?
We remain prisoners besides SCO, a virtualization manager?

I have many questions, but would be more correct to start running walk into a base platform that we do not lose sleep for possible ghosts and basic problems?
Thus, by eliminating problems can fully focus our distribution software, ERP, SAP, NIDS, etc. ..
