Hi.
I have a 5.0.7 system that was running great until this morning. Messages scrolling nonstop "INIT: command respawning too rapidly" on tty01 - tty12 and tty2a. I can't pass this stage, and can't even login to the server, not even in single user mode; the messages start prior to mainainance mode prompt.
Does anyone have an idea on what might be causing this and how to fix? Thank you.

I wish I knew :( I am unable to login at all from any console screen or terminal. It just keeps on scrolling nonstop!

It would appear that you have a serial or terminal or modem interface that is dropping and restarting over and over. If you have many terminals it could be a multiport adapter. If you have one terminal it could be the terminal itself. I would think single user mode would not try to initiate any
terminal sessions. You might want to try turning off or unplugging any terminal port device.

In an earlier version with the same problem I ended up with a sleep command and about 2 seconds of time to prevent an immediate restart. This appended to /etc/init I think.
May not apply to current version.
