The dell 6300 I am trying to install has a perc2 card with two containers. One container with 2 x 8.5 GB disks (mirrored). A second container with 8 x 18GB disks (RAID 5). I am using the following boot string

defbootstr ahslink=percraid disable=dptr,piiop,efp,wdex,mdac

When I get to divvy disk set up I am unable to see the container with 8 x 18GB disks. Please can some provide some advice of how to get around this problem.

Many Thanks.

You need to get the OS up and running on the first container first, then use mkdev hd, "Add a hard disk to a SCSI controller", to add the remaining container(s), reboot, then mkdev hd and so on again with the same parameters to divvy the LUNs.

The LUN is incremented for each container, so your OS would be installed on LUN 0, and the RAID would be LUN 1. Annihilannic.

If you are able to see the first array, my guess is that you are looking for the second one at the wrong address (controller number, bus, scsi ID, LUN).

Is your second array on a separate channel than your first? My guess is that it is because you are using 8 scsi devices for it. My information is that the perc 2 actually has 4 channels.

For my server hard drive setup (which is a dpti controller), my first array is on dpti(0,0,0,0) where my second array is on the second channel, so it is dpti(0,1,2,0). Usually with SCO the channel is specified by the bus number. You should recheck your configuration for what channel and address the array is configured for.

I used 'mkdev hd 1 0' in the end. This appears to work.
Thanks for all the help.
