I am attempting to create a database that will automatically schedule a group of employees and would like some help in pointing me in the right direction.

I would like to start off very basic and have a list of employees with the hours they can work and then have a list of shifts available. I would like to have the database assign employees to the available shifts if it fits within the hours they can work.

I'm just not sure how to start this. Can anyone give me some suggestions on where to start? Should this be done in a form, report, query? Again, i just need a starting point.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,

Automatically schedule a group of employees, to do WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and for what DURATION?

I am looking to simply schedule employees automatically for certain shifts.

Lets say I have 4 available shifts and 4 employees (I actually have A LOT more but using this for simplicity sake).

Available shifts are (6 Days a week):

8:00 am - 4:30 pm
9:00 am - 5:30 pm
10:00 am - 6:30 pm
11:00 am - 7:30 pm

Employee Availability: (to start and for simplicity sake lets assume they are available all 6 days the same times)

Employee 1 - Can work anywhere from 8:00 am - 7:30 pm
Employee 2 - can work anywhere from 8:00 am - 5:30 pm
employee 3 - can work anywhere from 9:00 am - 7:30 pm
Employee 4 - can work anywhere from 10am - 7:30 pm

Looking to automatically assign the 4 employees to the 4 available shifts based on their availability.

I just don't know where to start. I hope this made sense. Thanks for taking a look!!!!!
