Has anyone tried to schedule a compiled report using the Windows 2000 Task Scheduler?? I am using CR 7.0 with an ODBC connection to a SQL Server database, and my client wants to schedule the .exe file to run at 11:55PM every night, export an excel file and then e-mail it to a number of people. My client also doesn't want to spend money on CE or other aftermarket scheduling tools. How can I make this work??

AFAIK, this cannot be done using compiled reports.

I believe your client should consider one of the 3rd-party Report Managers listed at:

One of them (though I have no experience with it) is free.

CUT, Visual CUT, and DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

Can I use the Task Scheduler with .rpt files??

I don't think so. I explored that a couple of years ago, and I seem to remember that you can get the Task Scheduler to run the compiled report, but it still requires some kind of user input (parameters, clicking a print/view button, etc).

Maybe you can take Crystal out of the equation and set up some kind of DTS package on the server that exports the data to excel, then emails the resulting spreadsheet.

... and no, I don't know how to do it, but I know it can be done.
