Is anyone familiar with a way in which I could take Sharepoint and Designer only to modify the calendar webpart to make it like a room scheduler. Meaning people could reserve a room. So the on thing I can not figure out is how to keep a room from getting double booked....

Have you looked at Conditional Formatting in Designer?

You could could show a field / button if the room is available...

quick example:
create a new aspx page.
drop a Data View on the page.
add your data source.
select a field in the data view.
select the little > icon in the top right corner of the data view.
select Conditional Formatting.
top right corner of Designer, the Conditional Formatting window should display. from there click on Create.
apply formatting.
