Current setup.

We do end user backups based on the days of the week. eg mon = computer 1-15 tue = 16-30 etc etc. Each days jobs go to a different tape and we set the job each day as well.

I'm looking to go to a more hands off approach. Here is what I've come up with.

setup 5 jobs (one for each day of week) to run once per week, to keep the current rotation of computers as it is now.

The only problem I'm having is how do I write the weeks worth of jobs to the same tape? Do I create a new media pool and on the destinations tab select said media pool, with append selected in the options tab?

Are you dealing with an autoloader of some sort? If not, appending will eventually lead to the tapes filling up and the job hanging until another tape can be put in the drive or the job failing if another tape cannot be found within the specified time period (depending on how you have the job set up). However, since you are creating media pools, I'll assume you have one.

You could set up your five jobs and use 5 different media pools...each job has its own. That way you wouldn't have to worry about one job writing to media designated for a different job. For example you could have the Mon media pool, Tue, etc.

Just a thought. You may have to play around with it and see what works best for you.

Yes I have an Dell PV -124t with a 8 slot magazine. I'm going to try one media pool to cut down on tape resources. I've made sure that each job is set to append to media, Since these jobs are only ran once per week, so keeping a tape in there for a week seems without being used seems like a waste of a slot.

Thanks for the help.

for that type of setup do not use a media pool, configure each job to use the specific tape you want.
