I have tried to run a scheduled backup which requires more than 1 tape and I can not get it to work when the 2nd tape is inserted. There is a hotfix listed, but I already have the SP1 which includes the hotfix. It works fine if I run it manually. I have included the /UP switch that is mentioned in the hotfix. It prompts me to add a tape to the free media pool which I have tried but it doesn't pick it up. I am using tape labels and wonder if the problem is associated with the labels. Should the tapes have the same name even though the GUID is unique? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

If you are using the native ntbackup utility, it is a known issue about recognizing tapes. If you are running this from a command script or something, you may want to try to add in the rsm refresh command. Here is what I have used in writing backup command files:

start /wait rsm.exe refresh /lf"ARCHIVE Python 06408-XXX SCSI Sequential Device"

I would run that before the backup starts or whenever it has a problem recognizing the tapes. At odd times, I have also had to delete the media listings in the media pools, then refresh again.

One other note, are you enabling compression?
