I can format a disk and backup manually, but when I schedule a backup on a known good tape, it will tell me it was unable to find blank media. I have tried reformatting it when I put it in and it recognizes it, but it will not backup during the night. I can do nothing but tell it to backup now, and it will backup manually. Any suggestions?

I also have a problem occasionally of it telling me it is disconnecting from the tape drive in the middle of the backup. I have had the drive and cable replaced twice due to that and other problems, have re-installed Arcserve 6.61, and replaced the drivers, but still get this error a couple of times a week. It may backup the next time I try it manually, or it may take several attempts to get it to backup.

Check the firmware of your tape drive and ensure that is up-to-date. As for other issues, we could do with knowing what OS you are running it on and also what make and type of drive you are using. "It's true, its damn true!"

Side Note: Make sure that you are using an '*' in the Media Name field in the Destination section of the job. Monkeylizard

I'm having a similar problem. Monkeylzard, if you read this, could you please explain a little more about the "*" in the destination field. I've recently taken over backup duties and I don't understand why there is the "*" instead of a tape name in the destination box. I believe it has to do with creating a media pool. Am I right????

Please, help. x->

somejoe - Yes, if you let arcserve create the media pools (recommended), in your job setup it will show DEFAULT in the media pool name. The tape name is just "*" (an asterisk) so that it can name all of the tapes. If you name them arcserve will not be as easy to work with.

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

Cool, thanks for the help. Currently my arcserve 2000 application crashes everytime I attempt to examine the media pools.

Maybe I'll try to reboot the server this weekend and see if I can look at the media pools after that.
