Is there anyway to use Windows task Scheduler to schedule a taks that will save an event log (specifically the Security Log) and then clear the log? If so does, anyone know how I could do it?

Go to the Script Center on Technet:

Choose the option to browse the repository. Choose logs. There are 2 scripts that deal with backing up and clearing logs specifically as well as performing other tasks. If you are not familiar with scripting, do not be intimidated. The script center has some good resources to teach yourself.

Once you have the script setup, then you can schedule it as a task.

You can simply use the tool "ElSave" and program a task in the scheduler. It saves and cuts the event logs in original format.

You can find it free in

I've been using it for a long time and it's great!
