I'm new to Actuate and more familiar with report distribution using Crystal Enterprise 10. Can file events be created in Actuate? (i.e., can an event be set up to monitor the creation of a file and the triggering of that event then control the scheduled run of a report?)

Schedule a report based on an event

In Actiate 8sp1 (coming soon) you can.
Prior to that you'll have to write an app' that monitors for a file, then fire a request to iServer to start the report running.
You could start a long running Actuate report that sleeps then runs a shell to test for a file. If the files exists, it users the older Req. API to start a report.
