Sceptre X20WG-Naga resolution problem

I bought a Sceptre X20WG-Naga on a whim one day four months ago and still cannot get it to display the native resolution of 1680 by 1050. Most recently I bought an NVidia FX5200 based video card and using the DVI out only. The NVidia control panel correctly identifies the monitor and says "1680 by 1050 Native Resolution" and "1680 by 1050 Current Resolution" yet the picture is about 1280 by 1024 and it pans left/right up/down on sort of a virtual 1680 by 1050 screen (for example you run the mouse down to the task bar and the top desktop icons partially disappear.) I have tried all of the four scaling options. Setting 1280 by 960 fills the screen left/right with about one half inch of black at top and bottom . (Windows XP Home)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
