Question about my SCCS 5.0 and Web Client 4.5 servers using Win2K and Win2K3 operating systems. Since install, I have stayed logged on as the SCCS and Web Client windows user, and simply locked the computer when I walk away. An I.T. guy at my shop says I should be logging off these servers, rather than just locking them, but he isn't a Nortel, call center, or telecom guy...and doesn't appreciate that anything touching telecom or call centers gets weird. It's all been working fine, more or less, the way I've been doing it.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Logging off the server is more of a good practice for IT people in a server environment.

Relating to Nortel--if you leave it locked and someone needs to use it and not of a administrator level, they have to contact someone with rights to log you off the server or you can reboot the server...which is something you don't want to do for obvious reasons.

However, it looks like if I log off the OTM server, OTM itself needs to be shut down, and therefore unable to do it's nightly business. Maybe I need to stay logged on the OTM server all the time, but I can log off the Symposium servers and they will still do their thing. Does that make sense?

Logging off of Web Client Server is not going to cause you problems, but logging off of OTM could possibly complicate your life, particularly if users are using the Windows OTM Client. My suggestion would be to continue leaving OTM logged in if it's been working for you so far.
