I have just been tasked with the install of a Warm Standby Solution. Not too worried about that, what does concern me is about what is being supplied.

Looking at the order breakout, all that is supplied is Nortel Part NTUF11AA - Symposium Standby Server. So far so good The question is..

The Replication Server software. Is that a separate Item to be ordered or does it come with the above.

Many thanks.

I believe that part has the new keycode and the replication server software cd. The BIG thing to remember is to not have the standby and rep server computer names be a subset of the primary server name. I.E. do not have:
SCCSSERVER
SCCSSERVERSTANDBY
SCCSSERVERREPLIC
Instead, make sure to have all 3 server nams be totally unrelated like:
SCCSSERVER
STANDBY
REPLICA
This is not documented except in a solution search bulletin. Other than that, make sure to follow the documentation EXACTLY and you will be fine.

Good Luck

Rob

Many thanks teekow, thats a very useful little tip.

Dont bother with the nortel offering, it does not do exactly what you will want, it is not a warm standby in the sense of the word. If your primary server fails you will need to manually connect the elan cable, run the server configuration setup which can take anything up to half an hour. Also you need three servers, one for the primary one for the backup and one for the replication server. I suggest you look at the high end servers such as stratus. Much better idea, fully redundant and much easier to work with, though of course costly.

Stratus are the best "redundant" type servers for those who want reliability...I've worked on these systems a few times and well...they never seem to fail.
