Hi - can I ask if any of you have upgraded from Symposium Call Centre Server 4.0 direct to 5.0 ?
We are getting conflicting information via Nortel and our maintainer that we need to go 4.0 to 4.2 and then to 5.0 rather than a direct upgrade.

We'll also be going Web Client 4.02 to 4.5 at the same time - please feel free to share any 'watch out for' problems that we should be aware of.

I have Symposium documentation CD that contain document named "Installation_Maintenance_W2000_R_50_Standard_4_0_Nov5_2004.pdf". Table of document content contain puncts like "Upgrading from Release 4.0 to 5.0..." with all needed information for upgrading.
I have expirience in upgrading from version 4.2 to 5.0. Sanks this documentation all ok :)

Yes, you can upgrade from 4.0 to 5.0 without going to 4.2 first. Release 3.0 would require an transition to 4.2; also Symposium Express would need an interim step.

I am assuming you will be providing a shiny new server with Windows 2003 on it. Certainly, you cannot use the old Nortel MAS server and you need a new O/S. 4.0 ran on NT 4.0; 5.0 can run on either Windows 2000 or 2003. However, with 2003 you can coreside Web Client. Also, Contact Center 6.0 is now out. SCCS 5.0 on 2003 can be upgraded to Contact Center 6.0 without reinstalling everything.

The Web Client is more problematic, the work to migrate the Active Directory to ADAM may not be worth the effort and you might just want to configure the Web Client fresh.

There may be some other considerations driving their recommendations. Have they given you specific reasons?

Thanks for these answers - yes (ff7121) we found that documentation as well and presented it to the maintainers - however they claim they have experience that it fails !!(sandyml) interestingly enough we do have our new shiny Windows 2003 server sitting waiting...they kicked off about that as well claiming that they weren't sure we could use 2003 (don't worry we found that documentation as well)...their overall attitude has been 'in their experience' 4.0 to 5.0 isn't a wise move, at one point even asking for a disclaimer to be signed by us if we ask for this route to be taken.
Think we maybe need to switch maintainers :).

Maybe you're right.

At any rate, I have done many, many upgrades from 4.0 to 5.0. It is possible that you may have a problem with 2003, if it has SP1 already included. You also need to check your revision level on the 5.0 software CD -- Revision 4 and later is Windows 2003 compatible; Revision 5A, installed with patches SU05S/501/502/503/504/505 get around the SP1 problem.

Also, watch your partition sizes, and allow plenty of room on the C: and D: drives (no minimums; like 20Gb on C: and at least 8Gb on D (SP1 again, plus coresident Web Client).
