Hi,

Is Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition 7.5 which is running on our server (with NAV for MS Exchange running) scanning out ougoing e-mails as well as our incoming e-mails ?

I ask because an e-mail correspondent says in their signature that all the e-mails they send are scanned, and I want to check if ours are too.

I await your reply.

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards,
Jay/UK

They're not. Desktop email scanning is a sham and a waste of time.

A virus scanner scans files whenever they're read or written. All email scanners ever do is call the virus scanner--the same engine that's already scanning everything read or written--to scan the mail again. If it got past the file system scanner, it's going to get past the email scanner too, because it's the same engine.

SAVCE has a plug-in for Exchange that calls the engine whenever Outlook calls Exchange to download mail; that's all the plugin does.

If you want your email scanned, put something on the Exchange box itself. SAV for Exchange works well enough.
