Hi Folks,

A friend of mine has come crawling to my door with his PC which seems to have been affected by a virus. He has norton antivirus installed but says that he hasn't updated the definitions in a while.

The main problem now is that I cannot boot the machine into windows to update the definitions. Is there any way that I can download the deifinitions onto floppy/CD and boot the machine into safe mode/dos mode. Then I need to install these definitions and run a scan while in dos/safe mode.

Is this possible??

Hi Mighty

Which version of windows is on the machine? There is a tool from Trend that you could boot with and scan but it only works on windows 95, 98 and mellenium. Please see
If it is a windows NT machine are you able to get into Safe Mode? If so download stinger from See if that helps if you can get into Safe Mode.

Thanks - I gave up on it and just rebuilt it. Was able to salvage some of the more important files by booting to DOS. Thank anyway.
