My company has set Mcafee to re-scan Excel/Office any time anything is done. Isn't this tremendous overkill?

I'm getting a full second delay even if all I do is ask a column to auto-size itself.

I have some custom apps that create reports in Excel by passing VBA commands and my runtime has gone from 10 seconds to 10 minutes (and 20 minutes to 3.5 hours). IMHO this is crazy.

I don't have rights to stop/change settings so there's nothing I can do except convice the "powers that be" to change their policy.

From what I can gather there's a control panel (that I am blocked from opening) that allows one to specifically choose different levels of MS Office scanning. What might the choices be and what are the main differences?

I'd appreciate any tips/insights that would make me sound "educated" in this arena so that I might have a better chance of convincing them.

Thanks!

Might do well to add the Temp directory to the Exclusion list of VShield. Try this workaround first. And make sure you have the latest everything (version, SP, engine and DAT).

Hope this helps.

I can't 'do' anything. I only have 'user' rights on my computer. My computer is totally under the centralized control of a 'Global Information Securities Group' that is responsible for 100,000+ computers and my local Systems Administrator who does not have permission to do anything non-standard on my machine.

I need a coherent and targeted argument why they should change the settings 'globally' and what they should change them to in order to have a shot at them not just dismissing me out of hand...

Is there any real benefit to the current setting of scanning a file any and every time it is changed in any way?

Thanks again,
Brian
