Has any one seen any scanner commands taking hours and hours. The tape was backed up on my solaris server and has just passed it's browse and retention policy so I've tried scanning it in with a scanner -i. It's still running but really really slowly, any advise anyone could offer would be much appreciated.

Hi,

1.Scanner normally takes long time, even hours with small savesets.

2.Check for errors in the scanner output and system log.

3.Try with block size zero (device setting) "Long live king Moshiach !"

You can monitor the progress with the verbose switch.

scanner -iv <device>

It can take four or more hours to scan in a tape.

You can improve the performance of scanner by using the ssid, mediarec and mediafile. This information can be found using the mminfo command. Also run the command with the -v option. Usually you would expect to get somekind of screen output every few seconds.

When I have experienced problems with scanner. I do the following
kill the scanner process
change the DLT drive used ( I have 10 to chose between)
run a nsrck -F <client> on the server (twice)
restart the scanner process
