Scanner Problem?

Today my scanner suddenly started having a 1/4 inch light band vertically just off center top to bottom.

A little later it shrunk to about a 1/16 inch light band.

It hasn't changed since.

My question is this. Is it time to get a new scanner, or is this fixable. I have to use my scanner all the time so if this doesn't have a quick fix I'll just go get a new one and write it off.

My scanner is an Epson 1650.

Have you tried cleaning the scanning bed? Are there replaceable lamps? Have you read the manual?

I can't see any visible reason for the line, the scanner is clean and everything looks normal.

I just checked it again and the line is much fainter then it was last night, at first I thought it had disappeared, but it is still there but very faint.

Since it seems to be getting better I guess I'll just give it a couple of days and see what happens.

I have no idea where my manual is, I have had this scanner for a number of years.
I have had a few of scanners over the years both HP and Epson and I have never had one that failed, they usually just get replaced by a newer, better model when I upgrade my hardware. This is my business and it’s all deductible anyway.

I switched to Epson when I got a new computer with Windows XP and HP wouldn’t supply XP drivers for the large format HP scanner I had at the time. It made me really mad; it was an expensive scanner and worked perfectly. Now I use both Epson scanners and printers. Every time I buy a new one I think "Take that HP".

With the price of scanners these days if it does not go away completely I'd buy a new one. Some scanners use leds for the light source and some of them may be going bad. I don't know about the Eposn though.
