scanner/printer conflict

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 that I'm installing a ScanSnap s510 scanner and an HP LJ1020 printer but they are conflicting. As long as I turn only one of them on it works but as soon as I turn on the second device I get a message saying "USB Device Not Recognized". I've connected the same 2 devices to 2 other computers and they work fine.

So far I've checked that there are no IRQ conflicts and rebuilt the USB stack. Yesterday I formatted the hard drive on the computer and reinstalled the OS, downloaded all microsoft patches and all BIOS, chipset and other updates from Dell. I've called HP and they couldn't help.

I appreciate any ideas.
Thanks.

Have you tried through a hub? that would rule out the hardware conflict issue.

The manufacturers will never have an answer for this kind of problems, there are too many different combinations available. They are only trained to tell you how to put a disk in your machine and start the installation program...

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't resolve the problem but I got around it by putting the user's hard drive into my computer.
