since 2 months I have two scanner ( acer 310p et acer 320p) with XP, they stop responding in average same days on both PC. I try the basics to uninstall and reinstall, nothings solved the scanner always "not found" when tryng to scan with picture program ( paint shop, word...etc....

I tried the scanners on a different fresh install XP and w98, and it work fine. ???

I suspect xp change something in an past update , can't find anything on microsoft.

I tried to remove xp updates till september, nothing change

( the scanner is parallel model )

Check the parallel port is enabled in the BIOS. Also in the BIOS, maybe try changing the mode setting for this port. EPP, ECP etc. Look in Device Manager to see that the parallel is enabled in Windows.

The Bios was verify , and I tried all the option-combination and voltage option , the parallel port is working fine, because I have a parallel printer attach to both PC in trouble, and both print fine.

I also try to remove printer and connect scanner directly to port ...same...

When installing many modern scanners, during the software install it will ask you to connect and switch on the scanner so that the device and its interface can be recognised before proceeding further.

Do you get any message of this kind? Does the system recognise that you've plugged in and switched on the scanner during installation? Often, failure at this point won't allow you to proceed further. Or at the very least it will say there's a hardware failure.

Have you tried a different parallel interface cable?

thanks for the suggestions folks, really appreciated this.

Theses scanner was long ago installed on their computers, and works fine till this bugs.

I don't think cable is in trouble because the printers works fine , and the scanners was try directly on both computers.

the last driver avalaible on benq said XP, I know it is true it was working fine till two months ago... but why stopping like that ; microsoft have some problem with usb due to a update , but I can't find anything on LPT port problem
