hi,

I've recently upgraded to 2000 from 98 which is a blessing. I have a compeye joyscan 36p without a disc. I've downloaded drivers and on running setup i get the following message:
The instruction at "0x10005f9e" referenced memory at "0x00000aa4.
The memory could not be read.

Does any one know what this error means??

I don't have a specific fix for your issue, but you might keep tabs on thread616-397832

It is relating to a very similar issue to yours (different memory address, but same basic error).

If you do a search on google groups (try ), you will find some interesting info.

The bottom line seems to be two things:
1) If you are running service pack 1, then go up to at least 2. Sometimes this is enough to resolve this issue
2) It obviously sounds like the joyscan software is the issue.... Possibly look for updated drivers.....?

I hope that this helps! Mudskipper

BTW, when you downloaded drivers, did you get them from ?

If not, you may not have gotten the win 2000 drivers. Go to that site, click the link on the right hand side that says "windows 2000 drivers available" and then download the ones for the 36P. Mudskipper

I down loaded the driver from the link and ran the set up. Every thing went fine, reboot then test. The software im using both iphoto and adobe photoshop both dont recognise the twain source. When i check in control panel, scanners/cameras, theres nothing there. When i try a manual install the comeye software's not there so i browse to the downloaded files and get the message "specified location does not contain info about your hardware".
Any ideas??
Is there any way I can safely clean out all twain related files and reinstall????

Sounds like you are on the right track. I would also take out all references to the scanner and start over (using the new driver).

Go into your device manager and remove the scanner there. If the driver installed software, then you may be able to use an uninstall feature to take out any remaining garbage.

Reboot and then re-install. Hopefully that will work!

Good luck! Mudskipper
