Scanner crashes PSP

I've used PaintShop Pro 4.12 for several years. Yeah, I know there are newer versions, but I prefer the simpler user interface of version 4, I rarely need to do more than resize, crop and a few minor touchups with the clone tool.

Anyway, I recently installed PSP on a Dell GX270 running Windows 2000 with a Visioneer OneTouch 8920 USB scanner. Paintshop works just fine until I try to scan several different images. Scanning one image works fine. Two normally works okay. Sometimes I can even scan three images without a problem...but more than three scans and Paintshop shuts down immediately when the Twain software finishes transferring the data. Anything on the PSP desktop that hasn't been saved is gone.

I've tried downloading the latest scanner software and drivers and reinstalling with no success. Anybody have an idea what the problem might be?

Have you tried the 4.14 update?

Yeah, 4.14 crashes too. I guess it's time for me to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. I reluctantly installed the demo version of PSP 8 and it seems to work okay.
