Windows is no longer detecting my HP scanjet 6300c. When I first installed the software and connected the scanner back in April everything worked just fine. I used the scanner regularly for about two months then I did not use it until July nineteenth. At this time I received the message that the scanner could not be initialized (scanner not found.) The scanner is hooked up via USB port.
I checked all of the connections.
I tested the USB ports with other USB devices and Windows detected them fine.
Then I thought that may I had a faulty USB cable, so I got a new one. This did not work. I tested the scanner and software on a dell computer running windows 95 ( I'm on a HP Pavilion 4463 running windows 98) and this computer detected the scanner. ( I even scanned a picture into this computer using the scanner supplied software.)
Both the USB ports on my HP and the scanner have been tested separately and they all function.
I then thought that maybe I needed to get a SCSI terminator for the scanner even though I use it with USB. I was told by both HP Support technicians and some people at a computer repair facility that I should not get a SCSI terminator for this USB device as this was not the problem. I have been told by said people that I had a Windows problen. I have since re-installed the operating system with my HP Recover CD both over the old, from a reformate, and an unconditional-format. ( I had tried to unistall and re-install the scanner software, at least four times, before I undertook these last steps.) None of these solutions worked. I have even ungraded my BIOS under the recommendation of my brother who works on computers at Corning Glass.
Does anybody have any clue as to why my operating system is no longer detecting my scanner? Especially when it had worked previously...
I am at a total loss and really need some answers!
