Hi,

NW 7.2
Scalar i2000
Solaris NW server
I want to use the scanner command to recover index, for this operation i need to disable the idle device timeout (if i dont do that the jukebox unload the tape and stop the scanner command) is it possible to script the scanner command with this condition (disable idle timeout scan and enable idel time out) ? or maybe a setting to disable the idle device timeout only on one drive.
thanks for help.

??? So you want it the hard way!

Recovering the index is done by recovering the index backups which usually takes a fraction of the time you need to scan the tapes. The only technical reason to use scanner is if the info has already been deleted from the media index which makes a media unknown to NetWorker.

I do not see why you want to disable the idle device timeout as you have to manually load/unload the media anyway. To my knowledge you can not disable it but only minimize it - if 0 is not accepted, 1 should be the smallest value for this parameter.

Can you explain the index recovery process, is it via nsrck -L7 client name ( merge it with existing index)or just replacing index directory for the client in question on the backup server after recovering it.
