Good thing I dual boot or I couldnt ask for help.
When 98se begins to start I get a quick flash of the start screen then C: with a rapidly blinking cursor. XP starts with no problem. Any answer but reinstall. Both OS's are on the same HD.
Thanks Ed
Can you boot to safe mode? (hit F8 or Ctrl keys as Windows is starting). If so you might try System File Checker from the Tools menu of System Information which is usually located in the Start Menu under Accessories > System Tools. If this does no good let us know and we can take it from there. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
No. Cant do a thing. I tried it all. Installed (upgraded) to ME last night. At least I can still use the programs that I was running under 98.
Now I have a new problem. every time dialup connects ME reboots. Im off to the forums to (hopefully) find a fix.
Best of luck, ME is notoriously unstable at the best of times and the fact that it is an upgrade intallation rather than a clean install will only make it worse, particularly as you upgraded over an installation that was already corrupt. My sincere advice is to bite the bullet and do a format and reinstall, preferably of 98SE, NOT ME. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
