Cleaned up my daughters computer. Ran defrag and scandisk. Computer reboots runs a scandisk and then blue screens. It has done it 3 times. It will not go into safe mode either. What happen?

Perhaps your hard drive has died? What prompted you to run ChkDsk anyway, were you having problems?

The hard drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software on their site which will thoroughly check the condition of your hard drive.

Are you able to supply the Error details?

Nothing was wrong. I just run some utilities every once in a while when I think about it to clean up tmp files and the like, then run defrag and scandisk as a preventitive maintenance program.

the error points to missing file ntoskrnl.exe. I think I have ran into this before and a full Windows repair may fix it. I just can't believe that running Windows utilities would break Windows. Dohh....

If the error points to this it may be symptomatic of an even greater problem. Get the diagnostics and run them anyway. ntoskrnl wouldn't break on its own and may be a precursor of bad sectors to come.

Run the diags... just to play it safe.
And when you get the OS back - backup data off the machine.
