Hi to all!
I have two hard disks installed, one is partitioned.
So there are drives: C, D and E
In any case at System Start, the Scandisk runs on drive E:
TIA
Sandor

Have you been through My Computer, Right Clicked the 'E' Drive, gone to properties/tools and checked that scandisk is not enabled to run at at start up?

also, check the event viewer-maybe something is being flagged as wrong with the drive?

Thanks to all !
The thread779-958348 clears out the thing.
Next time I´ll do a better search :)

is there such a command as "scandisc"? i've never heard of it. there's chkdsk and sfc with the scannow option. any ideas what this "new" command is?

You sure heard it !
Maybe did not read it!
The command is SCANDISK

there's no such command in xp. when i type scandisk in the command window, it comes back with "scandisk is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file".
have you tried this yourself? on xp? what options/parms you use with this.

i think you have mistaken chkdsk with scandisk. and id did read it. it says "chkdsk" not scandisk, dude.

Scandisk existed in older version of Windows (through WinMe I believe). It ran through windows, not the command box.

Chkdsk is a much better program, altho it can take a while to run, depending on how many problems it finds.

barny2006,
Below, several ways to start SCANDISK

Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management, Storage, right-click the Volume, Tools, Options, Check Now button, Select Options, Start.

Start, All Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer (right where it is really handy!), Expand My computer, right-click the drive, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.

Start, right-click My Computer, Manage, Storage, Disk Management, right-click the Volume, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.

Double-click My computer on the Desktop (or Start, My Computer), select drive, File, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.

My Computer, right-click the drive, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.

dude, "check now" is not scandisk. there's no such command in xp. anyway, it runs chkdsk, which is what i posted 4 posts ago. there's no command called scandisk. if there is, you should be able to run it from the command window, like regedit, msconfig, chkdsk, whatever. what's the name of the program or the command that is "run" when you click "check now"? the options you're talking about is the chkdsk program with f or r option, which i stated. the dialog box asks for fix or retrieve data if possible. when you right click the drive / properties / tools / check now /, then check disk - local disk comes up with the 2 options that i mentioned.
cheers.
