scandisk activated at monitor idle

Whenever the monitor is idle and the screensaver is activated the scandisk function starts. I am using win 98SE if that helps. Where would I tell system to not run scandisk without instruction? As soon as I begin use again the scandisk stops and the work goes on.

Check for a virus, and remove any spyware(Ad-aware 6.0)

Look in task scheduler. You probably have a scheduled task to do exactly what it's doing.
