Scan folder exclusions

Ok.. so my event logs are filling up with

Scan could not open file... blah blah

Most are in the WINNT folder, but not all. Per the Symantec web site it says that you use exclusions... well, yes, but do I want to exclude the entire WINNT directory from scans?

I also use real time protection so maybe that wouldn't be that bad, but just curious.
