Is there a key combination to hold down to allow you to grab a corner of a text container and scale it. Both Quark and Freehand have this ability. If I do it in illustrator the container scales, the contents just reflow without resizing. I know I can do this with type that is not contained in a container. I get unpredictable results using the scale tool.

Use the free transform tool instead then. Shortcut is E by default.

Go to Object menu/Transform/Scale. Check Scale Strokes & Effects.

Once this is set, ILL will scale the test in the box using either the menu commands or the scale tool.
