Sometimes when I scale a text box (using the selction tool), the text increases proprtionally to the enlargement of the box. Other times the text remains the same size while the box increase or decreases insize.

Whay does this happen, and how can I control it?

Thanks!

How are you creating your text boxes?

If you just click and start typing, the text will increase in size.

If you click and drag with the type tool to define a box, the text should stay the same size. One exception is if you scale more than one item at once, in which case the text will scale with the box. Another exception is if you use the scale tool rather than the selection tool.

Yeah, I think that I am just creating my text boxes in different ways, as you said. Hence my confusion when each different box scales in a different manner.

Using the scale (or free transform tool) allows me to change the scale of any text box.

Thanks for your tip. That has been bugging me for a while. Im still puzzled as to why Adobe would program it that way. Was it like that in the earlier versions (9, for example)?

I think it's always been like this. When you create a text box using the 'click & drag' method, it behaves in a similar way to page layout applications. If you decided the box was a little too small to accomodate the text, you'd only want to scale the box, not the text. Sometimes that's not what you want, and sometimes it is. Adobe probably programmed it this way so it would behave consistantly with other apps.
