scaling of decimal value resulted in data truncation

I am attempting to import a table into access 2000 via odbc that has decimal values (i.e. 34.87656889) in the source table. I recieve the error:
'scaling of decimal value resulted in data truncation'
when I attempt to import this table. This error does not occur in access 97. How can I successfully import this table into access 2000? Also, is there any method where I can define a fields description prior to importing it via odbc?
