hi.. guys..
I am very glad to find sort of nice web-forum.
I've been having problem when I tried to upgrade server to server2003 stand alone from sbs 2003.

While i insert transition pack cd, I got error message like this.

"You can run this upgrade only on a computer running Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003."

i have no clue for that.. this is senario we got.
i have 1 Dc(DNS,WINS,AD,SQL2005..)with SP1. However, after I failed to upgrade, I uninstall sp1 from the server.
It looks still not working.. still got error.. OMG

I Cannot find any info about these kinds of error message.
Isn't it weired?

so pain to trouble shooting, help me out.. guys.!!

Thanks,

The Transition Pack media that you use HAS to match the SP-level of the server you are upgrading. If you have an SP1 server and aren't using the SP1 TP media, that will kill the setup. If you remove SP1, that might not fix things. If I were you, I'd try to return the non-SP1 media and get the SP1 media.

Also, if you are using the Transition Pack for SBS 2003 R2, and your existing server isn't R2, that will cause it to fail as well. The name on the TP should match what you are STARTING WITH.

Thanks for reply, shackdaddy..

How can I check Sp-level on TP media.? I think It is SBS 2003R2. My server is sbs2003.. (what's is R2?)

What's different between with R2 and Without R2? I don't know well.. It is first my IT job after graduation.

keep Still painful.. But I might catch little clue from you..

Please explain how it works..

Thank you very much..

R2 is a completely new release of Windows 2003 Server. There's an R2 version for SBS 2003 as well. If you have the R2 Transition Pack, you either need to return it and get the SP1 Transition Pack, or you need to buy the R2 upgrade for your server, which costs around $200 for the SBS 2003 Standard Edition R2 Upgrade. Here's the SKU to ask for for the upgrade, if you are interested and don't want to eat crow with management for buying the wrong Transition Pack:

Microsoft SKU T72-01415

Wow.. Real time reply..
I really appreciate it.. ShackDaddy..
It's big help for me to understand.. You're the man..

:D

I checked server info..(using remote access from home)
under system properties,
It says "Windows Server 2003 for small business Server 2003"
like this..

Is it sbs2003 R2 or just sbs2003? Daddy..

It's just SBS 2003. If your SBS server was set up earlier than last September, it's sure to be the older version, since R2 was released in September.
