Hi there,

I am currently trying to connect 2x IBM 3592 tape drives to a server with SBS, through a fibre channel card,

the device picks up the drives fine and windows says they are working properly in the system menu....however when i try and use the drives in say win-tar or anything else they don't seem to work.

Ive ruled out all the hardware LUN options etc. I have a feeling its somthing to do with SBS

I have even installed ASPI.

Can anyone suggest anything?

James

If you are using any backup software other than ntbackup, then you have to "uncheck" the box in the device settings that allows the tape drive to be accessible by ntbackup. This setting excludes other software from utilizing the Tape Drive. Had the same problem with BackupExec.

Small Business Server 2003 does not span tapes if I remember correctly. So if you're using NTBackup, then you might need to take a second look at your approach.
