i have an odd problem. i just replaced a server for a company and they are having two problems. the first is that they cannot save .doc files to the network shares. they can COPY the word docs tot eh sahre, but they cant save them, using word. the error it kicks is " Word cannot save or create this file" \
microsost has this to say about it
but what are range-locking settings?
another issue we are haing is users CAN map to network drives, but even when they check the box to remap at next logon, it doesnt. and when they map it manually, it drops the mapping randomly. then they can remap. but shouldnt have to do this.
im confussed. can anyone shed any light on this for me?

we are running SBS 2003, all patched up to date, and win XP clients SP2
the users can save ALL other file formats, just not word. ARGH

Thanks
Elizabeth

Not sure about the word thing but the drive mapping is probably relating to persistence

add the following line to your logon script to make drive mappings stay between reboots

net use /persistent:yes

However i would recommend that you decide what mappings people are going to have and then map the drives at logon each time as part of the script this way as admin you can set the common drives ensuing that each user uses the same letter for things so no problems with paths in documents etc arise.

thank you for the info. i may have the word saving issue worked out. my clients that are using office 07 are ntohaving the issue, only my office 2003 clients. may be a microsoft thing. ill repost my resolution here when im done for all the poor admins who run into it..

thanks for the login script info, i will add the persistant switch to it and see how it works out.
