SBS server 2003 and xp pro workstations

i have a dell server with SBS standard installed and have 11 workstations running on the network, the workstations are not members of the domain. the workstations acess the server on a shared drive that holds data for an application running locally on the workstations.

the workstations need to maintain a constant connection and seem to reboot the application very frequently.

i loaded the data on a shared drive of one of the workstations and in that case the workstations and applications work fine. but once the data sits on a shared drived on the server it slows down and i get reboots.

does anybody know if there is a limitation on the number of workstations that can in a network acess the server without joining the sbs2003 domain.

Well, more importantly, why aren't they joined to the domain?

SBS supports up to 75 user accounts, all of which can be active at the same time.

Do the computers/users that access the server have accounts on the server or do you just put in credentials each time you connect? Try adding the username/password that you log on to the XP computer with to the server.

the application company refuses to support the application remotely if the workstations have joined the domain. its easier for their support lines in case a unit has to be replaced etc.

All the XP pro stations are auto logged on when you power the units on (POS terminals). the user name and password are all the same (one single user used everywhere), therfore they all get rights over the share.

(the units therefore donot need keyboards etc.)
