Hi,

We want to host a SBS standard server in a Datacenter.

The SBS will only be used as mailserver. The Clients will connect with Outlook via the Internet (HTTPS)

In the datacenter the SBS will be connected with one NIC. This NIC will be configured with a public ip address. It isn't possible to configure a second NIC with a private ip address.

So my qestion is: Is this possbible/recommended? The firewall must be configured with SBS, we can't use a seperate firewall.

Best regards,

Bas

So the only firewall you will have protecting the server is the built in Windows Firewall?

I wouldn't recommend it - you'll need a client access license for EACH user who uses e-mail on the system and the CALs for SBS are more expensive (~85/each). You also can't join it to an existing domain - it has to be the FSMO master and handle all AD functions as the FSMO master (you can have other servers and DCs, but this is a pretty big asterisk). AND, it can create trusts with other domains. I would suggest you just buy standard editions of Exchange 2007 and Server 2003/8 and use that instead, if all you want it to do is e-mail.
