SBS/Exchange setup

I currently am running SBS on one server.
The company wish to utilise Blackberry phones.
I therefore have been advised to setup a stand-alone box with exchange for just the Blackberry software to utilise.

My question is - is it possible to install just the exchange server software from the SBS disks onto a seperate box (running say Windows Server 2003) whilst leaving the main box running the company exchange server.

Hope that makes some sense.
Any pointers gratefully received.
Jack

You'll have licensing issue doing that, I'm afraid ...

Hope This Helps, PH.

No - you can't do that. It won't work.

You don't mention how many Blackberry devices you have. The BES Express is free, and comes with a single CAL. You can purchase up to 14 more CALs for it.

It works fine on SBS.

Many thanks for your assistance.

Could I just elaborate a little.
The company is running a SBS 2000 server (apologies for setting question in this forum but I could not find a SBS2000 forum)
They are upgrading to SBS2003 shortly but the MD has jumped the gun and invested in approx 10 devices.

Prior to him signing the contract he asked me to speak to a rep from Orange who are the provider about the current IT setup and compatability.

They advised me to get a stand-alone server and install exchange from the SBS disks - as I was not to aufait with SBS I took his word (when will I learn) - maybe he meant run exchange from a seperate server and not the SBS (is that possible with SBS2000)

From your answer I take it I can set up the BES on the SBS 2000 server although that is fast running out of resources and looking at the recommended spec for the BES it is quite resource hungry, so that may be an issue.

Would an alternative be to purchase a copy of Exchange and install it on the stand-alone just for the BES or would that not work.

Once again many thanks for your assistance.

Jack

I was referring to installing it on SBS2003, since you posted in the SBS 2003 forum.

You can't install Exchange from the SBS disks.

Just a side note, i currently have Exch and a BlackBerry server on the same SBS 2003R2 box. Although we only have 5 blackberry users, there have not been any issues.
