Here's a question for ya.

I have a network 192.168.1.x running NT4 and a CISCO PIX 501
Now I just got a MS 2K3 SBS which I'm trying to set up before moving
my users over. It is my understanding that you cannot have SBS as a PDC and have NT4 on the same network "subnet". So what I'd like to do is the following...Set up SBS 2K3 on 192.168.3.x on the inside nic and 192.168.2.x and have an internet connection. Can you not set this guy up that way? Can the Cisco handle muti subnet? "yes?" What would be the best practice?
We have a fractional T-1 line running on a AD-TRAN box which then runs to our CISCO and from there runs to our switch at which point our NT4 - NAS's
and Clients plug into. "not managed"

Really need help on this one.I'm already behind on this installation as it is.
Thanks again.

SBS will certainly handle different IP subnets on different NICs.

The issue I see is with the PIX and the switch below it. Unless the PIX has another interface available, I don't know if you'll be able to assign a second subnet to its internal interface. Perhaps back the subnet mask on the PIX interface off to /16, assuming you've got /24 on it.

Perhaps VLAN the switch ports also, if your switch supports it.

Something else to think about...

SBS will not allow another domain controller in the forest/domain.

SBS will not trust another forest/domain.

These are just some of the restrictions that MS put into SBS.

Also, depending on the version, you can only have 50-75 users.

Now that I think about it, though, I do believe SBS will live with other AD forests on the same subnet - they just have to have a different top level name. Not entirely sure, but I think I've heard that someplace.

And, obviously, you won't be able to share resources between the two forest - as you won't be able to authenticate to both at the same time.
