Hi there,

I have an issue with DNS, the servers DNS has been setup with root hints.
The problem I'm having is that every few days I have to restart the DNS service as clients can't connect to certain websites, BBC, HSBC etc.

I'm done some searching and found a few posts saying do the registry fix:
I've done this and I still have the issue.

Could some 1 tell me how DNS should be setup correctly on SBS 2011?

Should I configure forwarders too, if so is it best practice to enter the ISPs DNS IP address in this field?

Cheers,

Jimmy

As to the link...
" This problem does not happen if DNS Server is configured to use forwarders for Internet name resolution instead of root hints. "
For security reasons you should use forwarding.

Another possible cause is you may be running out of resources on the server. Check for malware and for memory exhaustion. If you have a resident program which continuiously increases in memory use, you nay get your results. Open taskmanager, sort on memory use, look for any process which increases in memory use over time.
