Hi at my wits end all initial forum searches turned up blanks.
The Problem:
VPN to SBS 2008 with Windows 7 client.
The boss decided he would upgrade his laptop to Windows 7 all went well with the exception he cannot connect to exchange anymore.
After some checks I found the VPN connects fine, I can ping the server IP but cannot resolve any .local domain addresses like the Exchange server or Sharepoint. I can see from the ipconfig the VPN is getting the office router IP address instead of the server for it's primary DNS. The DHCP scope is set to prioritise the server DNS first then the office router second.
I have tried manually setting the DNS on the Windows 7 client VPN settings but it refuses to add the server as the first DNS server. I managed to get it as a secondary DNS but still wouldn't resolve any of the domain addresses.
I can resolve google.com without any issues so no issue with DNS.
I cannot see any way in routing and remote access or DHCP to force the VPN clients to use the defined DNS settings. To be honest cannot understand why the other XP and Vista clients get the correct DNS and Gateway settings but the Windows 7 won't.
IP Config Output for VPN:
PPP adapter VPN:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ******ltd.local
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . :
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.17
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254 (This should be 192.168.1.2)
Server IP: 192.168.1.2
Office Router: 192.168.1.254
DHCP RRAS Scope: 192.168.1.10-192.168.1.30
Any help would be appreciated.
