Hi,

I have been asked to look at the process of migrating an existing SBS 2008 server to a new Server running Microsoft Server 2008.

Does anyone know if there is a documented process somewhere or if any tools exist that assist in this process?

Regards
Rodopi

Hello,

I don't know of any documented process for this or any tools, however if you set up your new Server 2008 server as a secondary DC (not RODC), DNS, install Exchange 2007, and configure the replication between the two servers, you should be able to transfer mail boxes, NTDSUTIL to Seize (not Transfer) the FSMO roles, and then take the SBS server offline. This will leave a bit of clean up with ADSI Edit, but nothing to difficult to remove.

As always, ensure you have a full server backup image of your SBS 2008 server prior to starting the process incase you need to roll back.

If you have the system resources available, I would test this in a VM Environment first just to be extra safe.

Thanks Dennis for your reply, I will look into your suggested solution.

Best Regards
Rodopi
