Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. I have SBS2008 running as the dhcp/dns server on a small network of Vista and XP machines. Every so often, for no obvious reason, the dns stops working. It can resolve some URLs but not others – specifically it seems to have problems with and
The DNS log reads:

“Event 4004
The DNS server was unable to complete directory service enumeration of zone xxxxxxxxxx.local. This DNS server is configured to use information obtained from Active Directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and repeat enumeration of the zone. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.”

There will typically be about six event 4004s, all occurring in the same minute. These will be preceded by an event 4015.

“Event 4015, DNS Server-Service
The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.”

Can anyone help me figure out what is going wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks

Karl

Had a similar issue with NON-SBS2008 servers. This was on new 2008 servers running DNS. It happened a couple of times for each site. a quick restart of the DNS service resolved the issue and i've not had the issue since but it may have been an update which fixed it permanantly. Is your server upto date?
