Hi all,

We are migrating an SBS 2003 server to 2011.

All is going really well and we're almost finished.

We've got to stage where we want to demote and remove the old server from the network. However before I did this, I thought I'd just disable the LAN card to see if anything breaks.

Just as well I did this as we found a few users then lost their connection to Exchange.

I enabled the LAN card again in the old server and sure enough, their email started working again. This only affected some 4 users out of around 15.

I looked in Exchange on the new server and their mailboxes are still showing as 'Legacy' which I think is the problem.

The users in question have very large mailboxes and I think this is to do with the problem. Their mailboxes will be over the default 2GB of SBS 2011. I've now removed this limit though.

My questions are:

1) Is there anyway I can check on the move progress?
2) Within Exchange on the new server, the New Local Move task option has disappeared, so I can't kick off the move again. Depending on the responses to my first question, I might need to kick off the move again, any ideas how?

Thanks in advance.

a quick question, do the mail boxes still appear in the old exch server? its been a little while, but in AD in the old server, Exchange Tasks / Move?

The mailboxes in question do show on the old server.

I've tried right clicking one of them and using the move task, but when I get the screen where you choose the Mailbox Store - it doesn't show anything in the drop down box and therefore I can't click Next, so I don't think I can do it that way.

Ok so when you right mouse click the user in the new exch - what options do you get?

Might be easier to use Outlook to export the mail boxes to a PST, remove the mail box from the old exchange server and add it to the new one manually, then import the PST

I think I've sorted in. I've found the previous Move Requests and I can see the mailboxes in question failed. I'm now moving them one at a time again to see if they will successfully move across.

This is in Recipient Configuration > Move Request.

Excellent, food for thought. More easy to find documentation. Exchange certainly has grown into a large beast......

Just an FYI, I always set the "skip corrupted items" threshold to its max (49) to keep large mailbox moves from failing due to corrupted items. Since you can't fix corrupted items anyway, you might as well leave them behind.

Glad you figured out how to clear completed/failed local move requests in order to kick off a fresh move request.
