I just have regular SBS 2003 running.

I need R2, I was curious if I need to install SP1 first then R2.

Is R2 not a service pack? Just wondering why its not called SP2?

Im told DFS works better with R2.

We got SBS 2003 Exchange/Server/SQL
Im running Exhange SP2
Server is just base, not even SP1. I want to get it to R2. Do I need to install SP1 before I do the R2?

R2 is not a service pack. It's feature release that adds new features to the OS. It's an upgrade that you have to pay for.

There is both a Windows Server R2 and an SBS R2. Only some of the R2 features from Windows Server R2 are available in SBS R2. The better DFS is one of them.

Yeah..

R2 is a totally different version of those.
I also use 2003SBS SP1.

In order to update to R2, All you need is having TP for Upgrading.(It is obiviously easy.)

CCNA & NETWORK+
My every answer is
"There seems to be no pattern of when this problem occurs."
for Users.. :p

TP = transition pack

Holy crap, we have sbs premium 2003, to get the R2 upgrade it cost $600

Yep - sounds about right. You'd have to weigh the benefits of it. If you really want the DFS improvements, it would be worth it. The bandwidth saving alone are a plus.

right now it copy's the whole file

with r2 it just copies the part of the file that changes?
so say a 100mb file changes to 102mb. With R2 it will only update the changes of the file, so around 2mb is all that will be transfered across the vpn?
