I just got a new server and want to make it my DC etc. I have SBS 2003 want to set up the new server the same as the old
I wondered if i just created an image of the drive then deployed that to the new hard drive if that would work
instead of doing the full migration??

Thanks

Probably not, unless the hardware is identical. The difference between the hardware on the two servers would render the install useless, unless you did an in-place upgrade (installing SBS over itself), which is not recommended:

In-place upgrade can be performed on the same server hardware

My advice would be to start from a clean install and do the migration.
