Hi, my sbs 2003 server freeze when a specific vista client is accessing a network excel or word file. It freeze almost 1 time out of 3. I uninstalled the anti virus, check the patch cable, change my office version(2000) to 2007 but nothing seems to work. Its anoying because i must restart the server everytime. I need some help!

Thanks

What service pack levels are your SBS and Vista Client?

SBS has SP2 available and Vista I believe is on SP1 (which SP1 fixes a lot of issues).

My sbs have service pack 2 and vista have sp1

In my research, it is pointing to Windows Desktop Search. Disable or remove it may help the issue here.
Here is one persons way of disabling it:

Has an issue with UNC paths...or something like that. Worth a try.

I disabled the windows search service but i get the same results.....I also found a hotfix from microsoft to apply on my server to resolve a very similar problem to mine but it didnt work either.....

I dont know what to do next......

I have read of other users having the same issue, but not one of them has found a resolution.

I hate to say it, but you may need to call Microsoft on this one.

See if they have a hotfix for Vista as they did for XP. Also, try mapping the drive by IP and see if it happens again...just curious on this one. Everyone keeps referencing file locks and UNC plugins for searching network drives.
