I have a customer with SBS2003 installed, no problems so far. The customer has just been bought out be another company.
I currently have exchange running on the SBS2003 box.

My question is:- at present mail is send to fred@oldcompany.com but shortly mail will need to be sent to fred@newcompany.com

I suppose to change the E-mail domain name I will need to run the Repair internet and E-mail setting wizard and just amend the E-mail Domain Name.

This all seems fine; just I start to worry when I think about the MX mail record. I am going to have to amend it so that mail addressed to newcompany.com will get forwarded to the original customers exchnage server. But the company how has just taken over the company will have it oven exchange server and MX recording pointing at them.

I hope I have made things as clear as I can, any idea,s

Ok its not an issue the new copmany has a newcompany.com E-mail address and they have registered a newcompany.co.uk address as well. So this dismisses the prevoius post.

But, can I leave the exchange server so that it will still collect mail from the oldcomany.com as well as sending and reciving mail from newcompany.co.uk.

Of course. Just add the extra domain info under Recipient Policy in Exchange System Manager. Set the new domain as the default. Leave the old domain name in place so users can continue to receive mail there.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

thanks for that. sounds like I was flapping over nothing

just had another thought. if I have 2 MX rerecords pointing at one ip address. could I be listed as a spammer

No, having two MX records pointing to one IP won't get you listed as a spammer, however RDNS lookups will only resolve to one address, so set the RDNS to point to the new address since that is where outgoing mail will be coming from.

I hope you find this post helpful.
